Program and Communications Director, Asian American Federation (AAF)

Joo Han is the program and communications director of the Asian American Federation (AAF), a nonprofit organization that works to raise the influence and well-being of the pan-Asian American community through research, policy advocacy, public awareness, and organizational development. She manages youth, education, and capacity building programs that serve New York City’s low-income, underserved Asian communities. At the same time, she strives to raise the visibility of AAF’s work through press, social media, and special events.

Prior to joining AAF, she taught English Language Arts to middle and high school students. Her experience managing human resources and organizational development in the private sector for a number of years convinced her to go back to the classroom as a teacher to educate students about racial and systemic injustices and empower them to discover their agency through education. She received her bachelor’s degree in English from Williams College and master’s degree in English education from Teachers College of Columbia University.
